For my next post, I would like to introduce you to a smart device that will become essential in any stylish home or classroom. As we continue to see the number of devices becoming smart, everything from plugs and lights to our televisions, we will need something to control all of them. Right now, most of the smart devices come with their own app for control. But if you have ten smart devices, it can be frustrating going into your phone to find the app for what you want amongst the hundreds of apps on our phones. What you need is a smart hub. Now I know you are already thinking that sounds expensive and complicated, but rest assured, these hubs are simple to use and relatively cheap. A lot of you probably already have one in your home without knowing it. The Hubs I want to expose you to are the various Alexa hubs (Amazon Echo's) and Google Nest devices. They have become popular in homes to control music and answer random questions. However, these devices are capable of so much mor...

In this week’s blog, I would like to talk about a feature that is becoming more and more common on several platforms. The feature I am talking about is voice activation or verbal commands. This option became big with Siri on the iPhone; she helped you search the internet and even make calls. This was intended to stop the hands-on use of your phone while driving. Then came Alexa and Google home devices. These devices can control just about every smart device in your home—everything from lighting to the shows you want to watch. You can even get them to entertain your kids with endless dad jokes. However, this time I am not just highlighting all the helpful ways you can use this technology. This time I would like to warn everyone that with features like this comes things you need to be cautious of. I am sure everyone has been having a conversation with someone about an item you might purchase, then when you get on your phone or computer, you start seeing advertisements...

Well, everyone so far, we have covered devices intended for inside. This week, I would like to introduce a device that is still being developed, but I think it will be great for everyone. Its currently being called the Invisible Hood. No, it is not something you wear to sneak around! The Invisible Hood makes the Hood of your vehicle appear "see-through."  In the image I have shared of the prototype, you can see that the road appears to continue right up to the windshield. You can also see where the tires are positioned. This technology uses four cameras placed on the bottom front of the vehicle, relaying the images to a heads-up display transparent in the windshield's bottom portion. This gives a driver the ability to better maneuver around obstacles in the road. Imagine how many times you thought you would clear a pothole only to still drive right into it. For off-road enthusiasts, this a dream come true. It will also be helpful for young drivers to learn how to park. T...
White Interactive Boards (WIB) or Smartboards. The boards in classrooms have come a long way from the traditional models. Do you remember your classroom when you were a kid? Remember those days of getting chalk all over your hands and clothes? Remember that horrible itchy feeling in your nose caused by chalk dust lingering in the air? With a smartboard, all of that is over! As we evolve in technology, learning environments continue to move along with the scientific growth in the academic industry. Today, I would like to talk to you about smart boards in classrooms. These new innovating devices appear to be revolutionizing the learning spaces' configuration, making them more interactive between the teacher and the students. Although they have been improving teachers' sessions and lectures, anyone can develop a simple but very productive teaching experience. The white interactive boards (smartboards) are made of polyester-based plastic; the front layer of its panel is composed e...
This week I would like to introduce you to a smart device that is relatively new, but I am certain it will become a standard in any home or classroom. The device is the smart light bulb.... that is right I said light bulb. The item that has gone almost unchanged since its invention in 1879 by Edison or depending on who you ask, Alessandro Volta in 1800. Either way, it was a simple design and did not see much change until fluorescent lights came on the scene in 1927. Invited by Edmund Germer or Peter Hewitt in the early 1900s (noticing a theme here). Again, while there is controversy around the date and inventor the fact remains this was the only improvement to the light bulb in 70 years, give or take a year. Then again it would be another 50 years before the next big jump. The LED light bulb: yes, you guessed it, there is a lot of debate about who and when it was invented too. So, side note if you are inventing the next big thing in the light bulb world, you h...

To start my blog discussion on smart devices, I guess I have to dive straight into the age-old argument of apple products versus everyone else. Initially, I will be comparing iMac and Surface laptop/tablets. Also, I am combining laptops and tablets because now there is not much difference between them. Now both typically contain the same capabilities; the only real difference is where the company wants to market the device to compete for the best in that category.  First up is the iMac. iMac offers three tablets in this category: iPad Pro, the iPad Air, and iPad Mini. The significant differences between these are screen size, processing/memory, and Camera options. For this blog, I will stick to comparing the iPad Pro since it is always best to compare the best a company has to offer. The iPad Pro starts at about $1200 unless you want one without WIFI capabilities, and let's be honest, in today's on the go business and learning, one without WIFI would be pointless. Now the trick...
If the title caught your attention and you are now here hoping for the secret to Artificial Intelligence, I have bad news; You are in the wrong spot. Here on my blog I will do my best to show you many features your common smart devices (Ipad, Surface, Iphone, etc) already have, and highlight some new devices that you may not know about, that could improve your everyday life, or just make you smile. With every post I will attempt to provide you additional links to review speciation's yourself. I will also provide links to expert reviews on the same device. This will hopefully show that I am not biased to any one brand or type of device. By the end of the week I will post my first review of a device.
